Overview
Binned ("the app") is developed by Michael Garland. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how it is handled.
We collect the minimum data needed to show you your bin collection schedule and send reminders. We do not sell your data to anyone.
Data we collect
Address information
When you set up the app, you provide your postcode and select your address. We store the following on your device and on our server (for push notifications only):
- Postcode
- Street address
- UPRN (Unique Property Reference Number -a standard UK address identifier)
- Building number or name
- Your local council name
Location
If you choose "Use my location", the app uses your GPS coordinates solely to determine your postcode. Your raw coordinates are processed on-device using Apple's geocoder and are never sent to our servers.
Device token
If you enable push notifications, Apple provides a device token that we store on our server to send you bin day reminders. This token does not identify you personally.
Notification preferences
Your chosen reminder times (evening before, morning of) are stored on your device only.
How we use your data
- Postcode & UPRN -to look up your bin collection schedule from your council
- Device token -to send push notifications reminding you about upcoming collections
- Address -displayed in the app so you can confirm the correct property
Third-party services
To provide the service, we use third-party providers in the following categories:
- Postcode & address lookup providers -your postcode is sent to external services to identify your council and resolve your address.
- Subscription management -anonymous purchase data is processed by a third-party subscription platform via Apple. No personal information (name, email, address) is shared.
- Push notification delivery -Apple's push notification service is used to deliver bin day reminders to your device.
- Bin collection data -your UPRN and postcode are sent to a collection schedule provider to fetch your specific council's bin days.
Data storage & security
Your address data is stored locally on your device using iOS standard storage. If you enable push notifications, your address and device token are also stored securely on our server.
Bin collection data is cached on our server for up to 12 hours. Address lookups are cached for up to 7 days. All API communication uses HTTPS.
Data retention
Your data is retained only while you use the app. If you unsubscribe from push notifications, your device token and address are deleted from our server. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data.
Analytics
Binned does not use any analytics or tracking SDKs. We do not track your behaviour, screen views, or app usage. Our subscription provider collects anonymous purchase metrics as part of its service.
Children's privacy
Binned is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Your rights
You can at any time:
- Delete all local data by deleting the app or using "Change Address" in settings
- Revoke location access in iOS Settings > Binned > Location
- Disable push notifications in iOS Settings > Binned > Notifications
- Request deletion of server-side data by contacting us at the email below

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
